No Community Season Seven According To Joel McHale

While Community fans await with bated breath to discover the future of one of the best meta-humour comedies that graced the small screen, Joel McHale who plays Jeff Winger on the show has seemingly put a nail in the coffin of hopes for another series.

In an interview with Metro Weekly, McHale was asked straight out on what he thought of Yahoo! Screen going forward with a seventh season of the cult community college based sitcom. His answer, is not what the fans wanted to hear:

“No. They wanted to. But all of our contracts were up after six years. All the actors on the show, almost without exception — their stock has risen significantly and it’s out of the pay rate that is affordable to make the show. So you’re not going to be able to get Alison Brie or Gillian Jacobs at a normal television salary anymore. There is just not enough money to be able to pay for the show.”

This will come as a major disappointment (and very sad news for those of us at Nerd Lowdown) for those hoping Community would come back for one more season, but it does make sense considering the reputation of the cast has risen considerably thanks to Dan Harmon’s creation. On the other hand, McHale may be trying to force Yahoo!’s hand in an attempt to get him & his study group/Save Greendale Committee a bigger paycheck!

If a seventh season isn’t on the cards, Community fans will certainly still be hoping for the holy grail that is SIX SEASONS AND A MOVIE!!”

For now though, we’ll leave you with a highlight reel of Abed’s best bits from seasons one & two.
