Ealier in the week we brought you news from the D23 Expo that Toy Story 4 will be a Bo-Peep & Woody centred love story… Well now further details have emerged elaborating on the plot!
Pixar legend and veteran John Lasseter spoke to Collider at the Disney showcase and divulged even more details about the plot of the fourth instalment in the franchise that put Pixar in the spotlight. He also spoke on how they only wanted to push on with the world of Toy Story should they have a fresh idea for a sequel:
“As we were looking around we came up with this idea because Bo Peep was not in Toy Story 3, and it actually worked beautifully into this. So Woody and Buzz Lightyear go out to find Bo Peep and bring her back, and it’s a very special and emotional love story. But it’s extremely funny too. What we wanted to do was find a type a story that we had not done in a Toy Story before, and really our goal is to create something really original, something that’s different from what you’ve seen before. In every sequel that Pixar does we try to do something that is very different from the original, but is as good in a different way.”
Pixar, especially with the Toy Story movies have mastered stories of lost and found. While Bo-Peep and her sheep were absent from Toy Story 3, presumably sold in a yard sale, and always had a largely background role in the first two movies, her and Woody still had a very obvious history. This history was one of few things within the franchise that wasn’t explored throughout the first trilogy.
Exploring this relationship would be a great way to continue the franchise at least one movie more (if not three, you know Hollywood) and leaving the original trilogy be, all the while still connecting to it. We could see Woody, Buzz & co. trek out from Bonnie’s room in attempt to find Bo-Peep and mend Woody’s broken heart. Another option is a set aside movie set between the events of Toy Story 2 & 3, where we see Bo-Peep being sold by Andy’s mom (not necessarily on purpose) and the toys go to rescue her, only to find her happy in her new home, hence her absence from Toy Story 3.
Toy Story 4 is due for release on June 16th 2017!
