As Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War draws closer, it will mean another movie down on Chris Evans contract with in the MCU. After Civil War, he will be left with just Avengers: Infinity War parts 1 & 2, but the actor has come out expressing his interest in extending his career as the First Avenger!
In an interview with Collider, Evans basically puts out a come and get me plea to Marvel stating that if they want him he will sign on:
“Listen, if Marvel wants me they got me. I’ve never had such a relationship where you have such—I mean look at my resume, I’m used to being on set being like, ‘Ah is this movie gonna be terrible?’ Marvel just can’t stop making great movies, they do it in their sleep. It’s wonderful directors and producers and actors and scripts, and it’s like a playground as an actor.”
For fans of Evans portrayal of Captain America this is great news. It had been rumoured for a while that once his Marvel contract was up that he would retire from the role and give up acting completely but clearly this isn’t the case. As with every other actor involved in the MCU, he seems to genuinely enjoy and love what he is doing.
He also touched on how he was hesitant to sign on for Captain America: The First Avenger when he was offered the role:
“It’s so mind-boggling that I was so tentative in the beginning to jump onboard. What an asshole I would be if I hadn’t done this. I mean can you imagine? Kicking myself—I’d never forgive myself!”
Remember, Evans was not long finished with the ill-fated original Fantastic Four series where he played the Human Torch/Johnny Storm, so arguably he was wise to be reluctant to dive into the world of superheroes again. But we’re certainly glad he did!
For us, Chris Evans is the perfect Steve Rodgers and it would be difficult to see anyone else don the stars and stripes like he has. However, it would still be interesting to see a Death of Captain America story told where Bucky (Sebastian Stan) or Falcon (Anthony Mackie) took over the role before Rodgers dramatic return.
Would you like to see Chris Evans extend his Marvel contract and keep playing Captain America? Think someone else should wield the shield? Let us know!
