Once again we here at Nerd Lowdown bring you wonderful news in regards to the highly anticipated Deadpool movie (did we mention we’re excited?). This news shows the power that fans have on movies getting made or movies being a success. This news comes straight from Deadpool himself.
While doing some promotional work for the movie on the Graham Norton show on Friday night, Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds gave us some juicy information in regards to the movie getting the green light and the leaked test footage that surfaced last year.
“It’s been the best and worst relationship I’ve ever been in. Eleven years, I’ve been trying to get this movie made. We had a script, we did that about six years ago, then we had a little bit of test footage for the movie. That test footage sat on a shelf at Fox for four years, then about a year and a half ago, somebody accidentally leaked it on the Internet….And it just went nuts. The people started writing and flooding Fox, begging and pleading for the Deadpool movie to get made. Within twenty-four hours, we had a green light. We were making it.”
One hour… One hour after that footage hit the internet Fox gave the movie the green light. For years Reynolds was looking to get this film made and within an hour of fans watching this footage and commenting and begging Fox to give it the go ahead, they do. This just goes to show, the sheer power than fans have over the movie industry at times. Fans done in 60 minutes what Reynolds had spent years trying to do. He spent years trying to convince Fox that fans want to see this movie, yet they never believed him, yet the fans convinced Fox of that within an hour.
Of course no one has ever taken responsibility for leaking the footage, anytime Reynolds himself is asked, he both says it could have been him yet simultaneously deny that he had any part in it being leaked. A part of us thinks that it was Reynolds that leaked it, maybe he seen it as a last ditch effort to try get the film made, and knew how much fans wanted it, maybe he knew the power and the influence the fans would have. Then again maybe it wasn’t him, maybe it was someone else within Fox who knew of the test footage. Perhaps though this is a piece of information we will never be told.
Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
Deadpool hits Irish cinemas on February 10th.
