Who Owns Their Superhero/Super Villain Role?

Afternoon folks! Hope you’rer all having a great weekend! Today we have decided to discuss some of our favourite actors who have stolen the show in their super outing, whether it be in the MCU or the ever-growing DC Universe! For today, we will be sticking to our favourite male roles! ‘Cause we feel a female list deserves its very own in the future!

David Tennant – Kilgrave

David Tennant in Jessica Jones provided what was probably the best performance we’ve seen from any Marvel villain. In an MCU where the villains tend to be swatted away very easily (literally in Yellowjacket’s case), Kilgrave was given a chance to shine and show us the screwed up, mind controlling control freak he really is. His torment of Jessica, and pretty much everyone else was a fantastic spectacle and hopefully he has a long history with Jessica Jones.

Hugh Jackman – Logan/Wolverine

In one of the first ever superhero Hugh Jackman starred as the lead Logan in X-Men the mega super hit from 20th Century Fox! Before the MCU or DCU, Jackman was classed as the best superhero to ever grace the screen. Now with new supers popping up all over the place – we still feel that Jackman owns the role! It’s a big thing when you can’t see no one else play the title character other than him!

Heath Ledger – The Joker

How could we not have one of the best villains on the list? Exactly! Heath Ledger blew the critics and every cinema goer in one, if not the best superhero film ever: The Dark Knight. From magic tricks to complete anarchy, we saw him literally become the crazy clown from the get go! Sadly, the role may have proved too much for the veteran actor – but in his passing it has become one of the most analysed character piece ever to grace the screen.

Grant Gustin – CW’s The Flash

When Glee’s Grant Gustin was cast as The Flash, many were concerned whether he could pull off the role of Central City’s Scarlet Speedster. From his very first appearance in Arrow 2.09 it was clear that he was more than fit to play Barry Allen. Many would probably still argue that he is not really the Barry Allen from the comics, and they would have a point in places. But this Barry’s nerdy disposition, general uselessness in his love-life and his constant stride to get faster in order to protect his family & friends mean that Ezra Miller has big shoes to fill when he steps into the same role in The Flash movie.

Manu Bennett – CW’s Deathstroke

Many had written off Arrow in what was a very stop start debut season. When season two came around, Manu Bennett ensured that people paid attention when he donned the yellow and black of Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke the Terminator. Normally a Batman villain, Deathstroke is one of the baddest motherf**kers in the DC Universe. Every scheme became more and more diabolical, personal & fatal and when he appeared with the eyepatch & goatee we knew we had something very special playing out in front of us. While Deathstroke is sitting in the prison of Lian Yu, unfortunately it seems that DC have bigger plans for the character within the movie universe and in this prison Manu Bennett’s Slade Wilson will stay for now – but he has made sure whatever DC do, he will be remembered, at least so far, as Deathstroke the Terminator.

Chris Pratt – Starlord

In one of the more unknown superheroes to take the screen by storm, Pratt delivered a power-house performance in 2014’s Marvel epic Guardians of the Galaxy. With quick witty lines and heart that would melt anything, Pratt has been made an absolute star outta Peter Quill and we can’t wait to revisit the character in Volume 2!

Andrew Garfield – The Amazing Spider-Man

Okay..okay, the films he starred in may have not been everyone’s cuppa tae, but you can’t faultier Garfield’s take on the web slinger! Spidey’s humor was properly met and his love for Gwen was brilliantly portrayed thanks to the real-life couple (Stone + Garfield).
What is also awesome to note is that you could really get a sense that he loved the character which ultimately added to him owning the role!

Since, we are on the subject of the Arachnid’s universe, we want to give props to one Toby Maguire, we feel that he is the better Peter Parker of the two! [Editor’s Note – You’re fired! *please read in JJ Jameson’s voice*] He has the look down to a tee and the awkwardness that beats Garfields too good-looking look!

Robert Downey Jr. – Tony Stark/ Iron Man

Now we will argue anyone who says that Downey Jr doesn’t own this role! This Playboy – Billionaire – Philanthropist (we had to add it), owns every effing part of the MCU’s title character in every scene he is in! Whether it’s quick whips to Cap or warming hearts with Pepper, we love the fact that we get to see Downey Jr. have an abundance of fun with one of the most recognised characters this day and age!

Charlie Cox – Matt Murdock/Daredevil

We promise not to mention Mr. Affleck, although it is a guilty superhero pleasure of ours! Here though, thanks to Netflicks- the famously blind crime fighting lawyer is done right! Cox potrays the title character to his amazing ability and we can’t get enough at all! We can’t wait for season 2!

Patrick Stewart – Professor Xavier

How could we not mention the famously bald founder of the X Family? Okay we know James McAvoy does a great job in the prequels to Stewart – but the veteran actor is the most recognised of the pair and for good reason. Stewart owns the screen and makes great fun with scenes with Wolverine himself!

Mr. Deadpool as Ryan Renolds

How could we forget you Mr.Pool, sure it is your weekend and all! Smashing the fourth wall in our post is the Merc With The Mouth himself, Wade Wilson. As he begins to break records at the box-office this loving weekend, we couldn’t NOT add him to the list!
Reynolds was born to play the titled role and we can’t thank whoever leaked that test footage enough! Over 10 years in the making, Deadpool has been brought to life in spectacular fashion and as foul mouth as ever! Ryan Reynolds will from now be a force to be reckoned with and we very much can’t wait for where they will bring him and Mr. Pool next!
..Okay guys now add a sexy picture of me and my boo Ryan..
