Nerd Lowdown Casts The Ghostbusters

The trailer for the Ghostbusters reboot was released this week and, well, it leaves a lot to be desired.

In the politest terms possible, without using any expletives (and believe me that’s difficult) it was 2 mins & 38 secs of something that had absolutely no Ghostbusters vibes off it except for the music, Slimer & Ecto-1. With Melissa McCarthy & Kristen Wiig it feels more like Bridesmaids with ghosts than it does a Ghostbusters reboot/sequel/whatever they intend it to be. Many will say “Don’t judge a movie before you see it.” and in most cases we would agree, however in this case it is hard not to foresee a catastrophic failure which will inevitably result in another reboot down the line. So, with this in mind some of the Nerd Lowdown team have decided to cast our own Ghostbusters teams!

1. Bradley Cooper

Bradley Cooper and his deadpan and blunt humour I feel would be ideal as a lead member of the Ghostbusters, such is displayed by his performances in The Hangover trilogy or as the voice of Rocket Raccoon in Guardians of the Galaxy. As funny as he can be, he can also deliver a great balance of seriousness so that we don’t have an entire team full of jokers as is being attempted by Sony’s current reboot. He’s also a star who will attract an audience given that all the ladies want him and all the guys wouldn’t mind being him!

2. Chris Pratt

Chris Pratt is easily one of the most desired actors in Hollywood at the moment and one who is possibly the most liked among movie fans (apart from Ryan Reynolds). Pratt is someone who can fit into a group seamlessly with his likeability and sense of humour but deep down is a bad ass who shouldn’t be messed with. Between Parks & Rec, Guardians of the Galaxy & Jurassic World, Pratt has proven himself as both a solid comedic and action star.

3. Zoe Saldana or Jaimie Alexander

I do realise I have cast pretty much all of the Guardians  of the Galaxy but believe me when I say that was purely accidental. Here it is a toss up between two actresses who have been pure and utter badasses as Gamora & Lady Sif (Thor) in the MCU. I can’t decide between the two! Either way, both of these ladies could play a super-serious strong leading lady who is probably tougher than either of the guys on the team and keeps them firmly in their place while New York is terrorized by supernatural beings.

4. Vin Dies… JOKE – Alison Brie

I almost got you there, didn’t I? The Community star is most certainly the Egon of the group, in fact, she only has to play her nerdy, scientifically enthusiastic character from the cult favourite sitcom. Throw in a little bit of supernatural expertise in and you have the perfect Egon in Alison Brie. Given how she is not the biggest name in Hollywood, a role like this could be the big break this fantastic actress needs to make the big time!

1. Ryan Reynolds

Come on guys, he’s one of the hottest actors on the strip with both great comedic timing and overall a guy who pours his all into a role (even when he’s green & animated) – I feel he’d do a great job as the team leader portrayed by the great Bill Murray in the original.

2. Simon Pegg

Filling a role similar to Egon played by the late Harold Ramis – Simon Pegg would bring some great chops to the role; showing some great comedic timing in his Cornetto trilogy but also giving some very serious moments in the likes of Hector and the Search for Happiness.

3. Tina Fey

Who doesn’t love her? Exactly! Come on she’d be great in the role and imagine the banter between Reynolds? She also excelled alongside Amy Poehler in the very decent Sisters that the pair starred in before Christmas! Plus she could throw a hand in writing a script!

4. Margot Robbie

Yes! Not only is she beautiful BUT she is a terrific actress – she held her own against Leo in Wolf of Wall Street, pulled the wool over Will Smiths eyes in Focus and will no doubt bring her charming badassery to this show! She’s also set to dazzle audiences as our very favourite anti-heroine Harley Quinn in DC’s Suicide Squad this August! What we’re saying is, cast Margot and we’ll buy tickets!

Do you agree with our picks for a future Ghostbusters film? Or feel there are other actors that should be included? Do let us know!
