Ewan McGregor Open To Obi-Wan Kenobi Spin-Off

Ask any Star Wars fan what character they would love to see featured in a Star Wars Story anthology film and we can promise you Obi-Wan Kenobi would feature in many people’s top 5.

Well, it seems that Ewan McGregor who played the Jedi Knight in the prequel trilogy shares the feelings of the fans and would be interested in picking up a lightsaber & putting on the Jedi robes once more. Speaking with Collider, Ewan McGregor was quizzed on the subject:

“I’d very much like to do one [Kenobi movie] too. I think the story between Episode III and Episode IV, I think there’s a story there. I think that’s the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, if there is one. The one that bridges my Obi-Wan Kenobi and Alec’s Obi-Wan Kenobi because there’s a—I don’t know how long he’s in the desert there, but it’s got to be twenty or thirty years.”

When pushed to elaborate on whether he had met with Lucasfilm reps about returning to the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi, McGregor said this:

“I’m not sure I’m at liberty to say, really, but I’m very interested in doing that. That would be great. Maybe there’s even a trilogy!”

So that’s a if you told us you’d have to kill us, right Ewan? We get it. *wink*

In honesty, it would be great to see McGregor in action as Obi-Wan Kenobi once more. His character was one of the redeeming features  of the prequel trilogy and as the actor said himself, there is a post-Clone Wars/pre-A New Hope story to be told there. Why did he exile himself to the deserts of Tattooine? Did he attempt to revive the Jedi Order at any time? Or did he operate in the darkness against the Empire as a sort of Jedi secret agent? Questions that we could get very interesting answers to that would be now considered canon because presumably he did not spend all those years just watching Luke Skywalker from a distance.
