Last week at CinemaCon we were treated to our first glances at the new logo for 2017’s Power Rangers reboot. Now, we can feast our eyes on the villainous Rita Repulsa!
Played by Elizabeth Banks or Hunger Games fame, Rita Repulsa has always been a thorn in the side of the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers; and vice versa as they continually disrupt her plans to take over the world. Thanks to People Magazine we can now see what is a massive reimagining for the character!
While people will be quick to detract from the look considering it is so different from the original and easily mistaken for Poison Ivy, we like it! If we are to bring the Power Rangers into the modern day expectations of movie-goers, the old look just wasn’t really going to cut it much and with Repulsa set to have “a backstory that connects her to the new Rangers” we expect that it will be more than just a visual reimagining of the character. Traditionally, Rita Repulsa is an evil humanoid alien attempting week after week to conquer the world and with this look they have certainly achieved that!
The Power Rangers are set to land in March 2017 & joining Elizabeth Banks will be Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler as the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, Becky G as the Yellow Ranger and Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger.
