The Rock Signs On For Jumanji Remake!

We’ve known for a while now that a Jumanji remake was coming and now we know who will star in the lead role!

In what is sure to be a controversial casting for fans of the Robin Williams lead original, the Jumanji remake which is scheduled for a July 2017 release will star ex-WWE Champion, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson! The wrestler turned actor turned wrestler turned actor again announced his involvement via his own Instagram account:

It's OFFICIAL: Love this script! Big movie news that me and my canine gal Shang are excited to share;) To produce, create and deliver original properties to fans like HBO's #ballers to this summer's #CentralIntelligence is one of the best parts of my job. But to take great properties that are beloved worldwide like #BAYWATCH and #RAMPAGE and have the opportunity reimagine their stories in dope new ways to a whole new generation is truly an honor. It's official. We'll produce and deliver to a whole new generation a title that I love and is one of my all time favs: There's games you play for fun… then there's games that change your life. JUMANJI Working on edging up an already very good script with my @sevenbucksprod team. Up next is meeting with our producer Matt Tolmach and director Jake Kasdan. Shooting starts this fall. Promise to deliver something cool and special.. and not screw the whole damn thing up;). As always I'll keep you posted. Casting this should be fun! #JUMANJI #JungleLife #JustPressStart #SONYPictures

We’re not quite sure we smell what Sony & The Rock are cooking here but there is no doubt that The Rock is one of the most likeable & bankable action stars on the planet right now and one who can pull off both a sense of seriousness and humour when the need strikes. His entire filmography is made up of action movies that don’t take themselves too seriously and perhaps this is the tone that Sony are going for with the Jumanji remake. There will of course be many who will hold the original up on a pedestal and not see any reboot worth their hard earned ticket money and this is fair enough too. The same thing is happening with the Ghostbusters at the moment!

Will The Rock make Jumanji a People’s Champion or fall by the way side on a 3-count? Guess we’ll have to wait ’til 28th of July 2017 to find out!
