As part of the DCEU, we will be getting The Flash in his very own standalone movie with Ezra Miller in the lead role.
According to Heroic Hollywood, Warner Bros are actively seeking actors in a couple of key roles for characters that for the most part we are already familiar with thanks to The Flash TV show. Some of the plot points will even be very familiar for fans of the Grant Gustin lead series…
- Iris West
“Iris West is described in the breakdown as having Christiane Amanpour’s brains and Carrie Bradshaw’s style. An overcaffinated doe. A reporter at The Central City Citizen. Actresses are currently testing for this part.”
- Eobard Thawne
“Eobard Thawne is described in the breakdown as Central City’s Bill Gates. The smartest man in the room and he suffers from advanced degenerative disease like Stephen Hawking. Thawne is confined to a chair.” – Hmmm, where have we seen this before?
- Fred Chyre
“Fred Chyre is described in the breakdown as a gruff detective who first meets Barry at the scene of a crime. Now they’re colleagues and the closest thing Barry has to a friend. Chryre is investigating the unusual death of someone at Thawne Laboratories.”
- Len Snart
“Len Snart is described in the breakdown as being ex-military and turns out to be working for Thawne. Have a feeling he is the muscle the way Anatoli Knyazev (aka the KGBEAST) was the muscle for Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice.”
- Jay Garrick
“Jay Garrick is described in the breakdown as being a former Central University professor who was fired for fringe science, and was working on the speed force program. Supposedly his role is just a cameo.”
Bar Fred Chyre, all of these characters currently have or had key roles within The Flash on CW. Even the Thawne-Chair element is ripped straight from the show minus the Harrison Wells charade. It seems at this point in time based on Herioc Hollywood’s information that the Flash-Reverse Flash arc would end up being very similar to season one of the CW show. Whether this is a good or bad idea is another thing however. Warner Bros. could benefit from having a same-but-different Flash story brought to screens to make it relatable to casual viewers who like The Flash TV show. Alternatively, it may turn people away if it is too identical. We do not think this would be the case though.
Leonard Snart, or Len in this case we all know and love as Captain Cold. Wentworth Miller has been doing a stellar job in the role of the stone-cold criminal with an ice fetish but in the case of The Flash movie it does seem as if we will get a very different Snart. Being ex-Military would make things interesting and would probably deliver us a very different Snart than we know.
Jay Garrick showing up in a cameo role is another interesting prospect. In Batman v Superman, they made a point of teasing wider aspects of the universe with the purposes of elaborating on it in the future. Jay Garrick may be just that in The Flash movie. If he is someone who is already familiar with the Speedforce, then we have an ideal mentor for Barry Allen for a Flash sequel and/or the chance to see a Golden-Age Flash who previously operated in Central City. Think Scott Lang & Hank Pym in Ant-Man.
With The Flash scheduled for a March 2018 release, Warner Bros can take their time and all of their attentions will be focused on Justice League at the moment but we eagerly await some big reveals in the future!
