Ever since it was announced that the next Wolverine movie would be Hugh Jackman’s last outing as the metal clawed X-Men, fans has been speculation and theorizing who would appear in the film and what story arc it would follow.
Many fans think it will follow the Old Man Logan comic book arc, while many speculated that Patrick Stewart would reprise his role as Professor Charles Xavier for the film. Several sites had reported last fall that Stewart had signed on to play Professor X, and Hugh Jackman himself had said he would be open to exploring the father/son relationship Xavier and Wolverine have, so the news isn’t exactly new.
We can now confirm that Patrick Stewart has officially signed on to reprise his role, and his involvement has officially been confirmed. The films producer Hutch Parker spoke with collider at the premiere of X-Men: Apocalypse where he confirmed that Stewart would return as Professor X. The film also began filming last week, so the film is underway, and the curtain call on Jackman’s Wolverine career has begun.
20th Century Fox have been very tight-lipped about the details of the film, but as many fans have speculated, it is believed to be based around the Old Man Logan story, which is set in a dystopic future and as the title suggests, features on older Logan. Seeing as this is his last outing as Wolverine, there would be no more fitting comic arc for the film to follow. Here is to wishful thinking and hoping we get some more details soon.
The final Wolverine movie is due out in cinemas on March 3rd 2017.
