With the world caught up in the Pokemon Go craze, it good that we don’t forget about all the other news and releases that have been happening. Once of the biggest pieces of news to come out of this weeks is that Marvel have given us our first look at the new baby Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.
Unless you were living under a rock in 2014, you will more than likely have seen Guardians of the Galaxy and you will know what happened to Groot. With the team stuck on Ronan’s ship which is about to crash land onto Xandar, Groot forms a nest around the team, sacrificing himself to shield them from the impact. It was one the most heart wrenching moments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Luckily though, Rocket picked up a sprig from Groot and planted. The rest is history, by the end of the film, a baby-sized version of Groot had sprouted and even danced to The Jackson 5 hit “I Want You Back.”
We know that Baby Groot will have out grown his pot by the time the second film kicks off, but he won’t be that much bigger. Executive producer Johnathan Schwartz was recently interviewed by Entertainment Weekly about what we can expect from this version of this Baby Groot and this is what he had to say:
“He doesn’t have the wisdom and experience of that Groot. He’s a younger Groot and a more rambunctious Groot. The question is, is he the same Groot, just smaller? Or is he a different Groot that’s sprung up from the seed of the first Groot?”
Look at him, he is still adorable, Baby Groot is one of the most adored characters in the MCU. While he may still be a baby, there is no doubt that Baby Groot will still prove to be an important part of the team in Vol 2. We can’t wait to see him back in action.
Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set for release on May 5th 2017.
