Kurt Russell Confirmed as Ego The Living Planet In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2!

While we have known for quite some time that Kurt Russell will be in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, and it has been rumored that he is playing Peter Quills father, who exactly he is playing has been confirmed and he has a much bigger role than we thought.

During Marvel Studios’ big Hall H presentation Saturday night at SDCC they unveiled a trailer for the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel which revealed who exactly Kurt Russell is playing in the film, and it is someone or something should we say that no one expected. The trailer revealed that Kurt Russell would be playing Ego the Living Planet,  who is a huge villain in Marvel comics, but it also suggested that Ego is Peter Quills father in the MCU.

Description’s of the scene say that Russell emerged from a giant egg-shaped “thing” and introduced himself to Peter and the other Guardians as Ego. Ego explained to Peter that he came to Earth to experience what it was like to be human. In order to do that, Ego created what he thought a biological being looked like.  This is certainly one way to introduce a character into a movie, and it gives some clarity as to who Peter Quills father is, as we know it was going to differ to that of the comics.

For those who are unfamiliar who Ego is, he was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Ego first appeared as a Thor villain, but has also battled Nova, the Silver Surfer, Galactus, and the Fantastic Four. Ego is an actual living planet, complete with a brain, a digestive system and an immune system. He also possesses extremely powerful psionic powers.

We are certainly interesting in seeing who the inclusion of Ego plays out in Guardians Vol 2 and the explanation we get as to how he is Peter Quills father.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 comes out May 5, 2017
