Office Christmas Party – Review

There are two traditions of the Christmas season that, for many, can become a bit of a drudge – Christmas movies & office Christmas parties. Both can sometimes be bland, dull and inoffensive affairs. This year’s holiday comedy Office Christmas Party takes both those notions and smashes them with a booze fuelled romp!

Starring Jason Bateman (Horrible Bosses, Arrested Development), Jennifer Aniston (Horrible Bosses, Friends) TJ Miller (Deadpool, Silicon Valley) & Olivia Munn (X-Men Apocalypse); Josh Parker (Bateman) is the CTO for Zenotek, a data storage company based in Chicago. Clay Vanstone (Miller), the branch manager of the Chicago branch of the company wants to throw a Christmas party that’s a throwback to the days when his father ran the company. Unfortunately, his sister & CEO of the company Carol (Aniston) has other plans. Instead of holiday festivities she wants lay offs, cuts and no bonus payments – that is, unless the trio of Josh, Clay & Zenotek’s lead developer Tracey Hughes (Olivia Munn) can land an account that will push the company to a bigger profit margin. To land this contract they plan the biggest Office Christmas Party EVER.

What follows next is a whirlwind of alcohol, drugs, dance offs & debauchery as the eclectic staff of Zenotek industries let loose and party like they won’t have to turn up for work on Monday – with some hilarious twists & turns along the way for our core cast! Well, they won’t if Carol Vanstone (Aniston) has anything to do with it!

One would be forgiven for thinking that this is just another party movie like The Hangover or Project X, however thanks to the fantastic ensemble put together by the filmmakers (Josh Gordon & Will Speck) it becomes so much more. A solid supporting cast of Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live, Ghostbusters), Rob Corddry (Hot Tub Time Machine, Warm Bodies) & Vanessa Bayer (Saturday Night Live, Train Wreck) ensures there’s an abundance of comedic experience even outside of the lead quartet. The jokes and gags flow and thanks to a writing team with credits on the Hangover Trilogy, Role Models, Borat & more along with the experienced cast guarantee lots of laughs along the way. But of course, it wouldn’t be a Christmas movie without a few heartfelt (ish?) messages either!

While Office Christmas Party is not your typical Christmas movie, it’s definitely one you must check out! A great cast, lots of laughs and a whole load of antics that make it an absolute joy to watch. One downside? Your own Office Christmas Party will be a dreary affair in comparison!

Office Christmas Party is in cinemas nationwide from December 7th starring Jason Bateman, Jennifer Aniston, TJ Miller, Olivia Munn & Kate McKinnon & directed by Josh Gordon & Will Speck.
