This week we were one of the lucky few to be invited to the Irish premiere to the latest prequel spin off in the biggest franchise in the galaxy!
‘In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.’
Right off the bat we are thrown into a time where the Empire has begun to reign high over the Galaxy, the Jedi are no-more and all hope for freedom seems lost, but one spark still could be lit.
This is where we meet Jyn Erso, a loner with a past that could help alight hope across the galaxy. Thrown into the mix by Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and a diverse band of freedom fighters, the battle to steal the plans from pending doom has begun!
The entire cast are on point here, their physical acting along with the emotional plays part-in-part and enhances every scene to 100+. The one who stole the show for us was of course Ms Felicity Jones. Jones is an absolutely delight to watch and ups the ante from last years Daisy Ridley, Disney have hit gold with their two main female leads and we can’t ask for anything less. That being said, the entire rebel force knocked it out of the park and added heart and soul to the screen.
Taking the heart and crushing it in every good way was the great Ben Mendelsohn as the infamous Orson Krennic. This guy is pure evil and wants nothing more than to have the Death Star to his very pleasure. Mendelsohn only needs to give off his eerie star to shot dark goosebumps into the viewing crowd.
Obviously, by now we all know a certain Sith Lord makes an appearance throughout and with giving any spoilers away, you can trust us to tell you that the ticket price alone is worth his scenes.
Director Gareth Edwards has truly upped the ante in the Star Wars universe, by introducing very new characters that fans will come to love while also giving a truly impressive fan-easter egg moments without shoving them down your force chocking throat.
The cinematography is on pair with some of this years best as we shoot from ground level and then transported to the vast battles in space!
A worthy mention that’ll come up in our SPOILER REVIEW next week is the insanely terrific CGI enhancements played out. It was very hard to tell and didn’t distract us in a way!
We at Nerd Lowdown HQ can confirm that this is the prequel you will be looking for, as the intense action scenes and heart truly put the WAR into the Star Wars universe!
5/5 from us!
