2017 is set to fans of 1990’s return to Angel Grove, for those who aren’t familiar with Angel Grove, it was the setting of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, which of the best TV shows of the 90’s. The series spawned a movie, and this year we are set to get a reboot of the film.
The first trailer dropped a few months back, and was met with some mixed reactions. Now Lionsgate have released the second trailer for the film and gives us a good look at some of the movies key characters,
The new trailer which dropped earlier today hits the ground running, it is action packed and holds nothing back, whether this is a good or a bad thing is up for debate. The trailer opens briefly with the story of five teens being endowed with extraterrestrial energy that transforms them into the Power Rangers. From there its an all out in your face trailer. We get a look at many aspects of the films story and some of its key characters.
We get a look at the new Power Ranger costumes in action against the Putties (who are Rita Repulsa’s henchmen), we see Rita herself in action, we get our first look at Brian Cranston’s Zordon, Bill Hadar’s Alpha 5, we get a look at the Zord’s in action as well as the new Megazord briefly battling against Goldar (and he is a quite literal version of Goldar).
Our first look at Zordon gives us a few glimpses of Brian Cranston throughout the trailer and he differs from the ghostly face in a tube like the Zordon of the TV show. Cranston’s Zordon looks to be in an adaptive matrix that looks like those little desktop pin boxes you can leave an impression of your hand in. Also judging from the trailer, he won’t be fixed to one spot in the command centre, he will be able to move around the main chamber.
The first look at Goldar is during a battle sequence with the Zords and later the Megazord, and this version of Goldar looks exactly as his name suggest Gold. While the Goldar in the TV Show had a lion like blue face, and blue in the inside of his wings, this Goldar is solid gold and is more bird like than lion like. It is quite an interesting take on the character, itself apart from the TV version.
“Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it’s too late, band together as the Power Rangers.”
Power Rangers stars Bryan Cranston (Zordon), Elizabeth Banks (Rita Repulsa), Naomi Scott (Kimberly/Pink Ranger), David Denman (Sam Scott), Becky G. (Trini/Yellow Ranger), Sarah Grey (Amanda), RJ Cyler (Billy Cranston/Blue Ranger), Emily Maddison (Rebecca), Ludi Lin (Zack Taylor/Black Ranger), and Dacre Montgomery (Jason Lee Scott/Red Ranger)
