Ahead of some rumors that the DCEU would certainly consider revamping the Lantern series, tonight The Wrap have reported that a short list of not one but six A-List actors are being considered for the title role.
The golden list includes Joel McHale, Bradley Cooper, Armie Hammer, Jake Gyllenhaal, Tom Cruise and oddly enough Ryan Reynolds.
Reynolds has already portrayed title hero Hal Jordon in the 2011 ‘Green Lantern’ standalone and that’s all we will say about that… *Insert gif below*
Another interesting tidbit is that veteran star Cruise is (apparently) extremely interested in taking on the genre – it is highly recognized that the actor was eyed for the lead MCU giant Iron Man all the way back in 1998 and then in the late 2000’s but obviously that never meant to be.
In a recent interview with Jimmy Kimmel last year, it seemed that Cruise was happy playing the tough guy role:
So with Cruise, being very interested in the part what could have made him change his mind in mere months? A well penned script? The thoughts to lead another franchise? – remembering that he already has his Mission movies under his belt (number 6 airing soon) along with the first outing for the Universal Monster revamp series: ‘The Mummy’ which is one of the main headliners this Summer.
Everyone one has their right to their very own opinion and we like to voice ours here. We like the fact that the likes of these A-Listers are interested in the idea of many Superhero roles because lets face it, comicbook movies aren’t going anywhere anytime soon – and if they can get a shot at showing off what they can do then why not?
If you are unfamiliar: The Green Lantern Corps is the name of a fictional intergalactic military/police force appearing in comics published by DC Comics. They patrol the farthest reaches of the DC Universe at the behest of the Guardians, a race of immortals residing on the planet Oa.
Also it’s fun to know that there are a staggering 7202 members in the Corps, so why not give all six a shot at various roles and not just Jordan?
