John Wick Chapter 2 (Review)

In one of the most anticipated sequels to 2014’s assassin sleeper hit, we are thrown back into the world where the Boogeyman himself: John Wick plays.

Chapter 2 sees;
‘Retired super-assassin John Wick’s plans to resume a quiet civilian life are cut short when Italian gangster Santino D’Antonio shows up on his doorstep with a gold marker, compelling him to repay past favors. Ordered by Winston, kingpin of secret assassin society The Continental, to respect the organization’s ancient code, Wick reluctantly accepts the assignment to travel to Rome to take out D’Antonio’s sister, the ruthless capo atop the Italian Camorra crime syndicate.’

Armed to the teeth in a fine bullet proof suit and an array of weaponry that would make an armed crew squirm in their boots, John Wick Chapter 2 is an explosive-violent-thrill ride from start to finish.

Keanu Reeves is on point, showing off impressive acting skills along with his utter professionalism in stunt work that is on par with a certain Tom Cruise. His precise knowledge and attention to detail is clearly evident as he too, seems to be having an awesome blast portraying the character.

The story delves deeper into the retro underground world of these fictional societies and it is an absolute treat to be fed more knowledge, especially of that of The hitman Hotel and the mysterious currency of gold coins.

As seen in the first outing, John Wick was a straight up revenge story, but here we are shown what a man must do in order to survive and find a way out, and where his enemies just might be his friends.

(Might we add, the doggy is adorable in this flick)

The action set pieces are nothing more than poetic and intensely smart. Director Chad Stahelski has mastered the sequel with outstanding effort – keeping the camera to a minimum shake and letting us take it all in with every gaze. It’s the type of action that really deserves to viewed on the biggest screen possible.

Chapter 2’s supporting cast is also something cool – reuniting Matrix duo Neo and Morpheus for a scene or two. Hinting at what the future could be for the pair.

Although this is a very short review, we really don’t want to go into too much spoiler territory as this flick really does deserves your time and money as it shows that not all is lost in the sequel land, as John Wick Chapter 2 has not only proved to us to be one of the best action films in recent years, but, one of the best sequels in a long time.

Will we see more of Mr. Wick? Only time will tell. Nerd out!
