There has been plenty of buzz going around the world the passed few days in regards to Thor: Ragnarok, the third film in the Thor movie franchise. Entertainment Weekly revealed the first look at the God of Thunder and some of the other characters in the film, which some drastic changes coming to Thor himself. He has short hair and there is no sign of Miljnor.
Not was our first look at Thor himself revealed, but we also got a load of information about the fictional planet of Sakaar which is the home of Planet Hulk. While we already new that Thor: Ragnarok would take elements of the Planet Hulk storyline for the film and that we would be getting the gladiator fights from the comic book, very little information had been revealed about the planet itself until now in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly.
We got bit more information as to how Thor becomes involved in the gladiator battles.
“Her [Hela] attack on Thor sends him to Sakaar where he is forced to become a gladiator and realizes he’s no longer super special.”
So with Hela’s attack on Thor quite possibly banishing him from Asgard and forcing him to fight in these battles, it could explain why in the recent picture of him that he is holding two swords instead of his trusted Miljnor, it may have been seized from him upon arrival.
Chris Hemsworth also gives his own take on the planet itself:
“[Sakaar is] basically where every wormhole across the universe dumps out its trash, so you get people from all walks of life with all sorts of incredible abilities and powers,” Hemsworth explains. “No one cares what prince or king Thor may have been in another world. Also, his strength is pretty easily matched with those he finds himself amongst.”
While the article does shed some new information on the film, it still leaves plenty of unanswered questions, like why does Thor not have Miljnor? Has he become unworthy? What happened to his hair? What part will Loki play in the film? and many more.
In Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk!
Thor: Ragnarok is directed by Taika Waititi and returns Chris Hemsworth starring as Thor and Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as Loki. They are joined by Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson and Karl Urban, with Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins
