Avengers: Infinity War D23 Footage Description!

The D23 Expo has become Disney’s own personal San Diego Comic Con for announcing future projects and such but this time round it sounds like they have outdone themselves by showing Avengers: Infinity War footage!

Before we get to the footage description, please be advised that while probably unfinished and perhaps not making it to the film, there a big spoiler for Spider-Man: Homecoming and at least a minor Thor: Ragnarok spoiler too. Ready? After the jump…

“‘We are arriving,’ Mantis said to the Guardians. Teenage Groot in a seat. They describe this place as ‘dangerous.’ The body of Thor lands on their windshield. His hair is short. Rocket is startled. Mantis wakes him up using her powers. Thor is startled. All of the Guardians look at him, prompting him to ask who they are. The ship zips through the cosmos. Elsewhere, Wanda dodges some white energy, and it breaks a truck. Soemwhere else, Loki stands in ruin, presenting the Tesseract to someone. Peter’s Spider-Sense takes off as he rides a bus. Tony prepares for battle. He is in space with the Guardians.

“‘Fun really isn’t something one considers when balancing the universe,’ Thanos said. ‘This does put a smile on my face.’ Gamora looks on, terrified. The Guardians observe ruin in many places across Earth and the cosmos. Thanos warps into this new world. Star-Lord battles him. Strange battles him. Spider-man, in his new suit, battles him. Winter Soldier battles on Earth. Wakanda readies to defend their territory. Cap steps out of the shadows, bearded, with longer hair. Hulkbuster fights. Black Panther fights the four legged creature from Infinity. Thor’s head is squeezed by Thanos. Thanos pummels Iron Man in a fight. The Guardians are all defeated. Thanos has assembled the Infinity Gauntlet. He throws energy from a hole in space.” – via ComicBook.com

Ho… Ly… Stan… Lee…

Is it wrong of us to demand this footage now? Or at the very least have it released at San Diego Comic Con? Woah.

We really don’t even know where to fully start with reacting to the description of this footage only to say that it sounds like the culmination of everything that has been in play since the release of Iron Man in 2008 and more.

It would seem that this footage does give away the ending (or events following the ending) of Thor: Ragnarok with Thor going splat on the windscreen of the Milano and Loki handing the Tesseract off to someone (Thanos or his Black Order?). If this is a direct spoiler either within or just post-Thor: Ragnarok then we’d hazard a guess that we may not get this trailer so soon. While it may intrigue some, others would be peeved to have such details revealed before Ragnarok has released in November.

As for Spider-Man? After we left him turning down the Iron Spider suit at the Avengers new complex it was only a matter of time before it was necessary for him to wear it and the coming of Thanos is that time. It made zero sense to shoe horn the suit into Captain America: Civil War but thankfully Spidey fans will get to see it in action and not just as an easter egg! We also kind of get confirmation that he HAS spider-sense which we did not get much of a glimpse of in Homecoming.

Tony Stark readying for battle AND being seen beside the Guardians of the Galaxy in space is enough to make anyone go weak at the knees with excitement. How will he react to the Guardians? And how will they react to him? The battle of egos between Stark & Quill will be a sight to behold and while Stark has seen a whole lot of shit at this stage, we’d wager that Rocket, Groot, Drax & Mantis all at once could prove a tad much for even Iron Man to cope. And Gamora? Seen as she is the daughter of the Mad Titan seeking to destroy the Avengers there will surely be an argument or seven there…

Captain America coming back and seemingly from hiding (he is a war criminal, after all) will probably be his first moment of return in a time when the Avengers need him most. Scenes of Doctor Strange teaming up with Star-Lord is something we could previously only dream of but is becoming a reality.

With descriptions of Wakanda preparing to defend itself and the Winter Soldier fighting on Earth it’s also possible that there will be a two-pronged attack by Thanos’ forces, or that we’re thrown into the action from the very start of Infinity War. Thanos pummeling the Avengers & the Guardians (seemingly in space) but with Earth-bound action too means we’re gonna get a hell of a lot of movie and limited run time.

It will be interesting to see how it actually all plays out when more information starts to get released. The schedule so far runs Thor:Ragnarok to Black Panther to Avengers: Infinity War and time setting depending in those movies, the ending of each (Thor in particular as above) might well be vital into where Avengers: Infinity War picks up. It’s also worth noting that while Avengers 4 is no longer “Infinity War Part II”, it is still expected to be a direct follow-up to Infinity War. We may well see an ending to Infinity War just like the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I which ended suddenly and with our heroes on the back foot.

  1. I’m so hyped for this movie to finally be here. I simply need a trailer like this in my life immediately. I haven’t even laid eyes on it yet, and I’m already in love. My only hope is that part with Thor ends up not being that big a spoiler. I’d be a bit disappointed if it is.
